Town Hall

Cross Street 1898

I think this a picture of Abergavenny Town Hall, but am not sure. When we were staying in Abergavenny we lived outside, in Albany Road, on the way to the Rholben and the Deri, which we often climbed and as we didn't go into the town awfully much, only when my mother needed something, I have only vague memories of it. My great-grandfather Williams was Mayor of Abergavenny in 1905, and he wrote an autograph in my grandmother's album, which I still have. My mother's mother's family originally came from Abergavenny, which is why my grandparents went to live there after my mother married in 1934.

RE: RE: Town Hall

Yes, that's the Town Hall with the tower, which is bluey-green. The round window is the Market Hall, most famous for the Beatles concert which took place there in 1963.
I lived on a council estate just below the Deri in the town from 1957 to 1959 and continued going to the local King Henry VIII Grammar School in 1964.
It has got one of the best natural sites of any town in the country.

RE: RE: Town Hall

I worked opp0site the town hall in the late 1940s at Alfred Jackson's. The town hall is the market for Abergavenny, with the market being held underneath  especially on a Tuesday, and of course the borough theatre.
