Eire memories

At the top of the lane there was a post office/shop run by a family named Docharty or Doughety (I'm not sure of the spelling) who my... [more]

My grandmother (name of McDonagh, nee Faherty) lived in a place I believe is called 'Ryn' (not sure of the spelling) in Connemara. She had a beautiful cottage a short walk from the sea. I would like to be able to take my husband to visit this area and catch up with family who I have sadly lost touch with who... [more]

A nostalgic scene of tiny Dooega, a cluster of cottages on the south western seaboard of Achill. Fishing nets are left out to dry on the cobbles at the top of the beach.

A peaceful scene looking towards the 2,204 ft high Slievemore. Achill is separated from the Mayo coast by a narrow strait, crossed by a swing bridge built in 1888. The railway once ran from Westport to Achill village, but closed in 1937.

A view of this remote village, the largest settlement on Achill. Behind is Croaghaun, almost 2,200 ft high, which on the far side drops precipitously to the Atlantic.
