More about this scene

This view looks north up Church Street with No 15 on the left, a medieval house with a good crown post roof, and on the right the toy shop with the evocative names of makes of toy on its facade is now a chemist and has had the gable timber-framing rebuilt. The church tower is 15th-century, refaced in the 1880s. Beyond is the old Weller's Brewery, later the Goya perfume factory and since the 1980s converted to stylish apartments.

My parents were married at St Mary's church in 1940, the same year my grandfather died. He was buried in the churchyard. My grandmother is also buried there, as is my dear mother. Does ...see more
