Pack Horse Bridge And Surrounding Area in Flood
I was born and bread in Anstey, 21 Rosebery Road, a council house with my 2 brothers Kelvin and Clive. I loved Anstey I still do. I have a lot of childhood memories. I joined the Royal Navy on leaving school, Anstey Martins Secondary Modern, and I am now living in Portsmouth in Hampshire although I have been back several times. I miss the place dearly. I would love to return to live there. One of my brothers still lives in Groby, one lives in Nottingham, I miss them both. My grandad Walter Cyril Littleworth lived in Newtown Linford, Markfield Lane. My father (also Walter Cyril Littleworth) worked for (I think it was) Marwins Engineering, I don't know whether it still exists. Bradgate Park was my backyard, I knew every inch of the place, in fact I went to Boy Scouts at Newtown Linford. I knew Old John, the folly, Cropston Reservoir, it's all coming back to me and it brings tears to my eyes, God, I miss the place. I remember as a kid watching the Quorn Hunt gatherig at the Bradgate Arms in Newtown Linford. I was born in 1950 so have many memories, some hurt, some don't, but they all mean something to me. Better go now, am getting a bit morose. Sorry for being a boring old fart, God bless you all. Martin

RE: RE: Pack Horse Bridge And Surrounding Area in Flood
Ayup Martin me duck! I too remember Bradgate Park, and still frequent the place with my 5 year old grandaughter. I was born in Leicester in 1953. I now live in Coalville, just up road from Newtown Linford but lived in New Parks as a young un'. Me and me mates used to go on the local tip and scrape up enough bits to make a bike or two. We used to bike it from Leicester to Bradgate at least once a week, even more during school holidays. When we take our grandaughter to Bradgate Park I show her all the things I used to do. Catching crayfish and sticklebacks in the stream. Hiding in the bracken playing Cowboys and Indians. And the view from Old John is still blummin marvellous. Then on our way home we pop into the cafe over the road for an ice cream. On our last visit there was an old ice cream bicycle with the fridge on the front going back and forth in the park selling the old fashioned Walls ice cream cones, do you remember them? The ice cream was round and wrapped in card. Yer right Martin, memories do bring a tear or two, but at least we lived those wonderful times and can pass on those memories to our young uns'. It was nice reading your memory Martin, take care.
