Read Brothers

High Street c1952
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

My mother and father worked for Mr Read between 1966 and 1987, most of the time around the Hall Road shop but later in the mid to late 1980's also up in the High Street shop, which has been pulled down and an new shop built.
Mr Read died in the late 1990's and since then the shops have been sold - the High Street is not the same now.

RE: RE: Read Brothers

Mr Read was a wonderful man. I also used to work in the for Read brothers in the shop in Aveley on Romford Road, only a schoolgirl Saturday job. It was a super little job, my mum Tina la Castra and my sister Maxine also used to work there. I loved the wooden counters and weighing up the 2oz sweets and the 'proper' press-down tills, the old R Whites lemonade and cream soda bottles. Those were simply...the best days.
