I supported Aveley FC from about 1946 to 1957. Thurrock Combination. London League Div 2. London League Div 1. Cot Cup. LATHOL Stanford Charity Cup. Three times winners of the Essex Junior Cup. My most favourite footballer of all was Len Fogg.
I have wartime photos that match the distinctive window patterns and with the back marked 'Aveley' must almost certainly be Belhus House. Does anyone have any information as to what the house was used for by the army in 1940 when my father would have been stationed there?
It brought back so many happy memories reading about Aveley, I went to BUSHY Bit school around 1959-64 then it closed and moved to Love lane. I Lived in Myrtle Grove until I got married at Avely Church in 1970. I remember Miss Norman, PE teacher, and Mr Sidebottom my form master. My maiden name was Thomas.
This was the school I went to from 1963 until I left school in 1967. I have many fond memories of getting into trouble with a little help from friends. Mary and Wendy were two of my closest friends. My name back then was Edith Richards and I lived in Usk road on the Kenningtons estate. I was there from 1953 untill 1971 when I got married and then moved to Canada in 1973. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.
I lived in Humber Ave and went to Dilkes School. I then moved to Daiglan Drive and went to Bonney Gates School. My friends were Margaret Baily, Kay Compton and Dawn. We left Ockendon in 1967 when we moved to Daventry with Fords. There are quite a few Ockenders in Daventry as hundreds moved up here. My maiden names was Watson.
Hi, came across memories of Aveley by chance and found this very interesting as we were also the first to move into the experiment house, number 37 Central, and like you said was very cold. When we moved there there was no houses except fields next to Olive and Geoff King and I could see my nan getting off the bus at the Top House Public House as a small child. My great grandfather was park keeper at Bellus Park for many years. I am not sure of his christian name or his wife's but I believe they were Charles and Louisa but I know their surname was Osborne. He was a wonderful man with a very distinctive moustache, a bit like a waurus and his wife was a lovely lady who had a deformed wrist, an accident from childhood. I was born in Blenheim Gardens, I lived there until I was fourteen and we moved away. I remember Aveley with fondness. I can remember go-carting down Blenheim Gardens, the bonfire in the alley, the pit which I remember as being a wildlife paradise complete with bullrushes. My daughter Jackie Fuller married in this church in 1972 and my daughter Trina was christened there. We lived in Manning Street and I was married to Ted Fuller who still lives in Aveley. Trina was christened there in 1968 and I still remember the Vicar who did the service for both of them but cannot remember his name..
I went to school in Love Lane from1969 /1974, my first teacher was Mr. Cowell, others included Paddy Rice, Mr Stowell, Mr Morris, Mrs Abbey, Miss Close, Mr Napier, Miss Norman, Mr Mumford.
