Happy Memories
I have fond memories of staying at 'Captain's Ground' a cottage in Aternun, close to the church and the pub around 1960's. Is the cottage still there? The Wilson family lived there with daughter June and son John. Where are they now?
Family Ruse
My family roots reach back to launcestone in the 1790, 1848, 1880. My ancestors even further back all christened in that church. In 1892, my grandfather came north to work in the mines of Yorkshire at the age of twelve (the good old days).
St Genny's School
During the Second World War I was evacuated from Harrow and stayed with my relatives in Crackington Haven. I was only 6 years old at the time and went to St Genny's School for about 6-7 months before returning home. The headmaster at the school was Mr Bloomer, and his wife also taught there. My Time at Penkenna House in 1973.
I lived in Penkenna House in 1973, for a few months. I was only about 8 or 9 years old then so I lived with my mum and dad and my younger brother and sister. I think the property was then owned by a Mr Whitehouse who lived in Bude. During the summer months the house was used as a bed and breakfast but during the winter months the property was let out for short term stays.
Whilst staying at Crackington Heaven I attended a two-room-house school, which I think was in Church Road. The school had an outside toilet and the school was next door to a church. The school was run by two old lady teachers, a Miss Francis and a Miss Lane. Miss Lane taught the older children in one room and the younger children were taught in another room by Miss Francis.

Memories of 1943
In 1943 at the height of the Second World War, I was an evacuee and I stayed with my relatives who lived in Crackingtom Haven. Although I was only 6 years old at the time I have vivid memories of the six months I stayed there. World War One Visitor
In January 1917, my grandfather, Percy Smith, a young soldier from Australia, was on leave from the Front in France. He visited a family in Camelford, and this is the letter he wrote home to his sister. I would love to know more about the family and the area he visited.

Dear Maud,
I wrote to Mother last week - the day after I arrived from France and told her about my journey across. The trip across was not very pleasant but you more than make up for that once you get here.
I spent three days in London and had a look at all the sights - St Paul's Westminster Abbey, the tower of London and all the rest - and then came along to this place where I only intended to stay a couple of days, but have been nearly a week now.
