Mystery Stationers 1968

There was a high class stationers which opened around the late 1960s on the site currently occupied by by Mad Lilies florist. They used to stock artist materials and Rowney pencils which as a growing child I used to admire greatly and saved pocket money diligently to buy them. It was a lovely shop to look around, but along with the rest of my family I am desperately trying to think of the name of the shop...can anybody help please?

RE: RE: Mystery Stationers 1968

Hello, Members of the Banstead History Research Group have suggested the following answer:

The shop in question was probably Rossiters which was at 82 High Street, Banstead, next door to Mad Lillies which is number 84. At the time, we think that Mad Lillies was also a flower shop when it was known as Jacaranda. The other flower shop across the road was Lancefields. Today it is Giles Lesley.

Rossiters sold goods similar to those sold by Lorimers today which was artist materials and other stationary goods.

Mark Cory who supplied the information mentioned that there used to be a large cat who used to frequent Rossiters and who had a spot in the shop where it rested. It also used to attend church services at All Saints Church. Mark mentioned that it would always walk up the nave during a service and look around at all the people.
