I used to live in the house to the right of this photo [not shown] in the 1960s. It was a big river to a 9yr old and the fun my sisters and I used to have was in my mind a lot better than p/stations. It was a super village and I hope it still is. Best regards - Bill.... [more]

Lancashire memories
I lived in Burton with my parents Stan & Hilda Hailey in the bakers shop in the square from 1956. I can remember my dad making fresh bread & cakes with the smell wafting through the house. Church where grandparents married
My grandparents, William Delaney and Phoebe Heighton were married here. The Delaney family lived in Burton for several generations. I believe Phoebe worked for the Misses Wilson prior to her marriage. They moved to Australia a few years after their marriage. I visited from Australia in 1980s and was delighted to find charming little church intact and loved.

Visited church and local area to see for myself where my ancesters lived over one hundred years ago. They were Robert Gibson and his son, also called Robert, both of them farmers. New Shambles - Michael Goodwin''s shop
The boy in the hat is my grandfather, and the girl is his sister. The shop that they are standing outside belonged to their grandfather, a well travelled gentleman born in 1832. The view is remarkably unchanged in 2008!

My grandma used to live in the Cottage above the head of the Boy leaning on the wall. We use to love visiting and playing in the Yard. Great memories.

My grandad convalesced here, James Taylor. He died in 1976. I hope to take my mum to see the place this year. I have 3 postcards of the place, one of the statue, the bowling green and the entrance drive.

I worked at the Grange Hotel from 1983 until 1986. I lived in Grange for another six years at The Cottage, Graythwaite Manor. I left Grange in 1992 with my family when we moved to Australia. Enjoyed seeing the old photos of Grange, especially the one of the Grange Hotel.

The pretty little village of Barbon, near Kirkby Lonsdale, lies in the hills above the Lune Valley beneath Thorn Moor, on the minor road through Barbondale to Dent. If there ever was a village which time passed by, this is it, and it has changed little since this photograph was taken.

Grange-over-Sands Photographic Memories
The Furness Railway Company once owned the Hazelwood Hydro. Originally it was known as Brown Robin Mansion, and was built as a private residence. It became a hydropathic hotel in 1887 following its enlargement. It was not licensed, and guests had to order their own drink a week in advance of their stay. This view shows the back of the building.
