Halcyon Days
I spent many an hour floating around in a boat on that lake and dreading the second when the voice of authority would call out: 'Number 3 (for instance, your time is up.' We'd then make our way back to the boat house, as slooooowly as was possible.

RE: RE: Halcyon Days
I was born in Upney Lane hospital (1936) and lived in Barking till I married. Like you I spent many an hour floating on this lake, mainly in Skiffs as they were known, single rowing boats. One time I remember rowing fast along this lake and some lady rower crossed my path and my boat ended up being sunk and me leaping into her boat and not getting my feet wet, boy did I move. I used to go to the under cover market to buy comics and picture cards to make up my collection in the high street, trading in comics. I also attended St Margarets church and the youth club, Questors, up until I was 18 when I went into the RAF. My last address in Barking was in Longbridge Road by the bus stop where I used to alight to walk to Park Modern School.
