'The Rock Shop' 1960's
I have many fond memories of Barmouth. My parents, 2 brothers and myself spent our holidays in a caravan at Williams'. No T.V, gas light (those damn mantles!) but what wonderful times we had. We would go 'over the beach' at night armed with shrimping nets and scour the rock pools, climb over those huge rocks and cross the railway track and stroll back to the caravan to eat our chips. Does anyone remember the little girl dressed in Welsh costume giving out samples of rock outside the Rock Shop? Happy Days !!

RE: RE: 'The Rock Shop',1960s
Hi Madelaine. My husband and I are the original owners of the Welsh Rock shop, now situated in Beach Road (still run by us), our first shop was located in the High Street (opposite Morris's Drapery store) from about 1954 until the late 1960s when we moved to our present address. We did indeed employ many young girls during this period, dressed in the traditional Welsh Lady costume, handing out samples of our Famous N8 Welsh rock. By the late 1970s we found it very difficult to find anyone willing to do the job, so by the mid 1980s it was part of retail, and local, history. It's nice to think that we have become part of some fond memories of the lovely town of Barmouth. Hwyl, Mary & Vic.

I was one of the little girls who handed out rock. I still live in the area.
