More about this scene

The local newspaper offices on the left have been rebuilt with some taste, which is more than can be said for the brick infill on the right that is Timothy Whites & Taylors. This is now (in 1999) a greetings card and toys shop. Yellow 'no waiting' lines do not yet disfigure the road surface.

This picture has particularly fond memories as on the immediate right is Darks the Jewellers' shop, where I started my first job as an apprentice. The window immediately above the sun blind is the watch repairer's workshop. Two doors away is Timothy Whites, a name long gone from our High Streets.
