I was born and lived in maysoule road in 1938 on the corner of maysoule road was a off licence called gogays and a news agent on opposite owned by the same gogays there was a hair dresser on plough road run by jack bus he also repaired clocks ,further down plough road was Vickers green grocers and lewis fish and chip shop,in my opinion it was a great area.and recently I went back and was shocked to ...see more
Hi I went to Battersea county school in culvert road from 1969 - 1975 I was in Tower house I have been on facebook but cannot seem to locate many people from that time.. My maiden name was Jenner and I knew some really nice people. I lived in culvert rd in a massionette above the shops. Joseph Austen Lamb and Frances Harrop were married at Christchurch Battersea on 12th October 1884 and their first son Thomas was baptised there in May 1885. Some time after that they moved to Gillingham Kent. Hilary Fletcher, nr. Lincoln
My grandparents Ben and Margaret Hiller had the Jolly Gardeners pub on York Road. I cannot find any record of it or any person that remembers it. I was born in 1966 and can remember it vividly, also the distintive smell from the candle factory . I was born and bred in Battersea, Firstly we lived in Yelverton road with my Grandparents and I attended Falconbrook School. Then my parents got a Maisonette in Culvert road I then attended Chesterton School. in 1969 I attended Battersea County School where I fell in love, got my heart broken and made a lot of memories some bad some good all part of growing up. Is there anyone who remembers the Stokes family who lived at 26 Currie Street until the end of 1958 ? I lived there with my parents & grandparents until i was 7 when the slum clearance made us relocate to Roehampton. It would be great to hear from anyone who remembers us & to share your memories from those times
I was born in Grant road in 1950 & left in 1960 ,the old Essex pub was on the other side of the street & half way down the street was Gaylors off licence & at the bottom was Fyffes bananas where we used catch the big spiders.My grandad worked at prices and dad at battersea garage.Dad also played darts in the Gladstone pub (where they would go on outing and someone would always film them) .They both used to run ...see more
I lived in Bolingbroke Walk from 1951 until about 1959 and have been searching for ages or any images of the street or the school.
In my 70th year, currently living in Canada, enjoying fond memories of my first 24 formative years , spent in Battersea: Bolingbroke Walk; Montefiore St; Elcho St and mostly in Westbridge House. A lady writing on here mentioned a couple of places in Battersea that bring back memories. First of all, she mentioned Meyrick Road. I never lived there, but my mum and dad did when my mum was carrying me. My mum and dad were Mr. and Mrs.Fomes, Alfred (Alf) and Olive. I believe they were evicted for being overcrowded!
