Hi i was also born at chippinghurst manor in 1944 my mother hated the place i think she was there about 3 weeks. She was living in tooting s w17 at that time we left tooting 1954 and moved to putney vale between putney and kingston. We moved back to tooting when i was 17years old. I was born in november in the 70s i found the manor and took a look at the grounds. My name terry cross i now live just outside chichester west sussex.
I am a bit older, was born in Battersea in 1938. Went to Sinjuns after passing the 11+ in 1949. Suffered under Peter State [Statey] in his horrible woodwork class, as well as Mathematics. Later had Maths with A J Stripp, who's mood swings were entirely unpredictable. He was a really good teacher. Was friendly with Ronnie Rix in State's classes. Headmaster was I believe named Wharton, he wore really thick spectacles, you could hardly see his eyes. This made it almost impossible to know what he was thinking, very dangerous because he gave the cane to boys left right and center. If you were not wearing a school cap it could result in a painful rear end! Ronnie Rix was always getting caned, mainly for being late for school all the time. It did not seem to bother him at all, I came to think he was a true masochist. Also friendly with Adrian Goodyear, we both lived on Forthbridge Rd. He was great at cricket. I now live in Maryland USA but still a Battersea Boy. Ted Pettit
