More about this scene

The attractive village of Bromham is now bypassed, so the old bridge over the Great Ouse is mercifully much quieter than it was a few years ago. From the south-west side we glimpse Bromham Mill and its leet beyond, now a restored and working watermill. The bridge has 26 arches, some of which date back to the 13th century, but it was substantially rebuilt in 1813. In 1902-1906, after this view was taken, the parapets were entirely renewed; this time refuges were added jutting out over the water to protect pedestrians.
