Nottinghamshire memories
Date Error.
The photo shows number 18 High Street, on the left, where Mr. and Mrs Miles lived.
A small conservatory covered the ground floor windows in this view prior to 1964, when the house had alterations made. A double garage and kitchen extension were added and the rose garden was concreted over for the driveway.
I remember when it was altered, the builders found rushes under concrete in the upstairs floors and rushes in the ceilings.
Carlton on Trent
My grandfather, Charles Arthur Evan, was signalman there. My mom Margaret Evans was born there in 1917, one of four daughters. She passed away nearly three years ago at 92 and as sharp as a whip. We emigrated to Canada in 1958. My mom and dad, James Peter Turner, knew so many of the folks in Tuxford and Carlton on Trent as they had the Fountain Hotel in Tuxford, also Cherry Tree Farm and a barbers shop on Eldon Street. My dad was also the undertaker and bell ringer at church. My daughter visited Ruth and Nigel Walton who were so kind and wecoming to them. My mom and family lived in Beck Cottage and she had so many memories. My Auntie Ruby is the teacher in your book. Does anyone remember her?

Low Marnham
I now live in Low Marnham, I have lived here for about 7 months, and was interested in its history, and so fell upon this web page. I was most interested in Marion Wilkinson's message about her story of her grandmother who had her throat cut. I wanted to know if you know which house it was, because there is something a little odd about my house, that I don't understand and I wondered if there was a conection. If anyone could help please leave a comment, thanks. Also it is also very wierd that you mention Ripon, because my partner Dave is from Ripon and was born there, and I lived at Boroughbridge which is 7 miles from there. How bizarre.
Grandad
My great-grandad was born in South Clifton along with his parents but I don't know where, I would love to find out, his name was Charles Edward Walker.
Family History
My Great Grandparents Albert Wells and Edith Ann Judson married in this church on 24th December 1912. Edith was born Judson and was born at Holme and so may have been Baptised in this church as well.
Glebe Farm Brough
Situation of Farm: Glebe Farm was situated in the centre of Brough approached along a track off the Fosse Way. About 800mt away was the very busy war time Winthorpe aerodrome. My association with the farm was through a family relationship; Mr and Mrs L E Stephenson, uncle and aunt, together with their son. They were tenants of the property, owned I believe, by The Church of England. I regularly visited during my school holidays. The House as I Remember it 1940-1954: This was a house of unknown early history. It was obvious from its form that it had been extensively added to over the years. Viewed from different aspects it looked quaint and elegant whilst other views looked utility. It was built of brick, with some natural stone, but in the late 1940's was cement rendered, a practice now known to harm the wall fabric. Inside the house were a beamed dining room and two lounges.
