From Pill To Bettws Estate In Early 1960's

A Memory of Bettws

My family moved from Pill in early 1960's to a new 3 storey house in Thames Close. The estate was only part built but me and my family moved in - it was a fantastic 'adventure playground'. Local PC known as 'Copper Paul' was the local 'Sheriff'. I lived in Bettws until 1973. We lived a rough and tough life - having to travel out of area (Malpas) until Millbrooke School was completed in 1963/4 (I think) and then Brynglas Secondary Modern and then Newport High School - not a great standard of education. I no longer live in Newport but Pill and Bettws will always be my home. To everyone that may remember me or my family, please drop me an email

Tips & Ideas

Not sure what to write? It's easy - just think of an important place in your life and ask yourself:

  • How does it feature in your personal history?
  • What are your best memories of this place?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How does it feel, seeing these places again?
  • Do you remember stories about the community, its history & people?
