Children's Home on London Road.

I was in a children's home on London Road from about 1964 for about 3 years. I forget the name of the home, but I went to Shortmead Street School for a while, then Rose Lane, before ending up at Holmead. I used to go to the Catholic church near the Regal cinema, on a Sunday morning, and the Regal on a Saturday morning. I would love to know the name of the children's home, I think it was Holmways or something similar, and if anyone remembers me. My memories of Biggleswade are lovely ones, and the people were always friendly.

RE: RE: Children's Home on London Road.

Hi Steve, Thankyou for that information, I have been looking online for ages, so now at least I have a name to go on, and yes, I do remember Gerald Fitzgerald, he was older than me, but a good friend at the home. I remember he was a good footballer, and had the whitest teeth I'd ever seen, funny the things you remember, we used to call him "Fitzy". Thanks for your help. Nige

Hi, yes I can confirm the Childrens Home was called Holmefield, and was at 134, London Road, Biggleswade. I was there as a resident from 1970 until around 1975.

Hi Nigel
The boys home was called Holmefield. I remember it well as one of my best mates was there whilst we were at Holmead school 1963/65 named Gerald Fitzgerald, ring any bells. Glad you have fond memories of Biggleswade, a great town, not so good now.
