Bilston, St Leonard's Church c.1965

My maternal grandfather, Thomas Mottram, owned The Hop Pole pub on Market Street - sold it in 1924. My paternal great grandfather, A E Webb, started a haulage company, centred at a house called Mendham, on Wolverhampton Street, which became Webb Bros. Any body remember these? My Aunt, Hilda Mottram was a primary school headmistress - not sure which one.

In 1920 my fathers mother and father married. at the time they lived in15 Martins building Lower Bradley. I think I have that right. I am reading it from a copy of their marriage certificate and the script is not that clear. My grandfathers name was Lewis Thomas and my granny was Annie nock. Does anyone have any memoirs of this address? Would love to hear them.

My mom and dad were married at St Leonards, in the late thirties - myself and my brother were christened there. My brother and I, were born at 81 Moseley Road .My brother and I, had many a good time playing behind the houses opposite. In those days we had real summers. Many years ago, about 1951, us children myself and my brothers and our friends used to play on the fields where now Bilston Colledge is situated off the Wellington Roa in Bilston. We had such fun playing on those fields, running up and down the bonks, as us Bilstonians would say, and also jumping the rusty brook.
