More about this scene

Despite a great deal of demolition in the 1950s, Bishop's Cleeve boasts many fine old buildings. A village existed here in Saxon times, and records show that King Alfred gave land for a church here in the 8th century.

A Selection of Memories from Bishop's Cleeve

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Bishop's Cleeve

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

This was my grandparents house, I have so many wonderful memories of spending holidays there, paying with my cousins and stealing cakes from the bake house!
I can remember going to the Kings Head with my parents and their friends and spending time in the beer garden on the swing being given coke and crisps.
I can recall going to the Tithe Barn in 1961 where they were holding a jumble sale, and buying my mother a wind up gramophone for a shilling. There were some old 78's with it which mum kept for many years. I was 8 at the time and living in Stoke Orchard. Its wonderful looking at these old photos. Thank you.
I am positive that my cousin RJ Smith and his parents lived in the housev in the photo. If anyone else remembers them please get in touch.
