Nostalgic memories of Bishop's Stortford's local history

Share your own memories of Bishop's Stortford and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I remember staying here in 1959/1960 where my friend Mig had moved to. I lost touch and would love to know about her. We had a wonderful holiday together in Perranporth Cornwall. We actually got lost one night and were so relieved when we found our way back to the Golf Club where we were staying in a log cabin. We worked together briefly at the Economist 1959-1960. If she is reading this or anyone that knew her I'd love to know.. I think they moved away to London sometime.
ANY ONE REMEMBER THE TRANSPORT CAFE IN LONDON ROAD,ALSO THE CANNING FACTORY,A NORA ELLIS WORKED THERE FOR MANY YEARS,AND I WORKED AT THE CANNING FACTORY IN THE 50 S,ANY BODY ELSE WORK THERE?MAYBE I MIGHT REMEMBER,
I remember this building being Handscombes Ironmongers. And one end of it being a pram shop in the early 80's I think . I bought my parents their 25th wedding anniversary present in Handscombes... a dinner service in a Poppy design. Full service with tureens etc only cost £24.99! This was in 1978. They held their party at the Bell in Stanstead.
