My father worked here and lived in the workers houses in Claylands Road in the 1930s. I remember as a small boy finding powder here which we put in a bottle with water and threw it as fast and far as possible as it exploded, leaving no trace of the bottle, then we would run like hell as someone from the brickworks would be after us. I got stuck in the wet clay there once and my brother and some of his mates pulled me out, leaving my new wellies buried, I was not popular when I got home!
