RE: RE: Nanny Blake/Baker
Hi Jackie
I remember Mrs Baker. She delivered me in 1950 and later cleaned for my mother for many years. I moved away from the area a long time ago and it is strange looking at photos and hearing from people I knew when I was 10. Playing in the rec, George the gardener driving a big old car to pull the mowers. The photo of the tower (long gone) was taken after the large Chestnut trees were cut down. I remember your old house which was eventually pulled down. Mrs Baker then moved futher up the hill. I often wonder what happened to all of the kids I played with from St Marys rd, the Durrants in particular. Also the days spent fishing from the roadside - very few cars about in those days. The old school with Mr Collis, Mre marshall was the headmaster and my favourite teacher was Miss Smith. Happy days

RE: RE: Nanny Blake/Baker
Hello I lived in the same street as the Durrants and used to play in the alley behind St Mary's Road, behind the churchyard, with Leslie and Ronnie. I remember well Mr Collis and Mr Marshall (huge nose he had!). Bishopstoke was a great place for kids. I now live in Allbrook, not far away but I don't like going back to Bishopstoke, all I remember has mostly gone now. I loved walking in the Mount grounds (now ruined) and playing in the river, as you say Happy Days.
