An Exciting And Eerie Sight Through The Fog, December 2006
Hi, my name is David John Peplow and I was born in Wolverhampton in 1944. I now live in Blackpool. My main hobby or interest is clay pigeon shooting and I recently called into Hodnet and was told about Peplow Hall and so on Tuesday the 19th Decamber 2006 my wife Rose and I drove through the fog to find the village of Peplow and discovered Peplow Hall and the small Parish church. We were both excited as we pulled up outside the main gates to Peplow Hall. Although it was foggy we could make out its faded splendour. My wife naturally asked if I was related (I obviously said yes). I am now intrigued to find out more about the place, its history and my name and if I have any connections with the area. Can anyone please give me any history of the place and my name? Regards D J Peplow.
My Memories
I used to live in the grounds of Peplow Hall. My father was a gardener there, sadly he has now passed away. But I often think of the place with very good memories. My name then was Carole Cordingley. Capt. Higgins owned it then but not sure who does now. It was a lovely place to grow up in and I have very fond memories. I would love to go back there one day, just to have a look around and see what has changed.
Bullocks Row
Does anyone know of a place in Edgmond called Bullocks Row? My great grandmother Ada Charlotte Fox was living there in 1881 but I have been unable to find this address on any map. Any information or photos of this place would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone even knows the family? She was the daughter of Thomas Fox and Charlotte Lea
Hubble/Hubbal
Does anyone know of Flatt Lodge in Edgmond as quoted from the 1871 Census with Hubbal's living there? I am unable to find it on any map.
Miss Lees
1975-PRESENT
I was so sad to hear about Miss Lees Dying, she has such a special place in my heart and memories. I moved to Hinstock in 1972 with my parents. My family are from Hinstock, the Harris family from Mill Green. I now live in Whitchurch.
Growing up I have special memories of Miss Lees, she taught us to have faith, she taught me to ride, she taught me about nature and to nurture it.
I loved the rides around the fields on the trailer of her tractor, oh what fun we used to have. She opened up her house and her land to all the children of Hinstock from all walks of life. Miss Lees had 2 dogs Fred and Bonzo, we loved those funny looking little cross breeds that she rescued.
We used to muck out the horses every day, we looked for birds nests and used to pick her yummy strawberries.

Hanmer Family
My grandmother, Sarah Jane Hanmer, was born a twin in Eyton in 1910, her mother, also Sarah Jane Hanmer, is buried there. They were a large family, and my great-grandfather was a farmer. All the children went to school there. Their house is still standing, near the church in Eyton. My grandmother was a chamber maid in a big house near there, possibly Wellington. My great-grand mother was married twice, after the death of her first husband who had the surname Lewis.
John Weaver Lilleshall Sculptor
John Weaver is shown as being a stonemason on the 1827 Lilleshall baptism certificate of his son Alfred Weaver.
A family anecdote says that John Weaver took commissions for monumental sculptures and that after a statue of a horse and rider was unveiled it was noticed that he had omitted the girth straps for the saddle. This caused considerable ridicule from others and eventually depressed him so much that he took his own life by shooting himself.
I have long wondered if somewhere in or near Lilleshall there is such a statue?
