When I Was Young

I was born in Cherrywood Road back in 1956. I was the youngest in the family that originally moved into the road in 1952. My brother still lives there, being a total of 57 years now. Places I remember in the road are the Why Not Inn, Gypsie's Tent (later known as Typsy Gent), Doreen's corner shop, Queenie's shop, Colmore Depot, Diamond screw, Forward Radiator, Ward's corner shop, Ted Rogers the bookmakers, Jones' Garage, Cherrywood Road school (housed between Cobham and Burbidge Roads). Names I remember are Pawley, Coldwell, Summerfield, King, Groves, Howell, Edwards, Bennett, Froggart, Bumford, Ward, Kirk, Wakefield, Neale, Craig.

RE: RE: When I Was Young

I lived in Carlton Road, Small Heath, went to school at Little Green Lane. I have have a lot of good memorys there. I used to go in the corner shop with a penny and buy four sweets, ha, try that now, then I went on to Cherry Wood Road School. When I left there me and my mates got up a football team and called it Cherry Wood Celtic. We used to have the school hall every Friday night for a disco and on a Saturday night after a game of snooker on Boardsley Green green we would go for a pint at the Why Not Inn, oh please take me back to them days. RE: RE: When I Was Young

My nan and grandad used to live on Cherrywood Road, they were Rosemary and Eric Bennett, they had 3 kids, Lee, Simon and Paul. I remember my Saturday visits there, going to the corner shop on Fordrough Lane, Joan's I think it was, and Lucas's chippy at the top of the road. And going to the shop on the corner of Cobham Road, and watching for trains at the top of the road... oh the memories.
