Josephines?
Not really a memory but I wonder if any of you folk remember a florist shop called Josepine's in Botley, I believe it was on the Hedge End road. She was a Barfoot and a sister of my nan, I think!
Any memories would be great ... a photo magnifico.
I have family in Hedge End and my Grandad had a shop called HG or WG Ferris in the Bitterne area, this info is all new to me so I will be down to Botley soon and have a pint at the Bugle where I've learnt my dad was a regular.
My email is: donnamilee@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks,
Lee Ferris.

RE: RE: Josephine's?
I remember Josephine's well. In 1940s it had a bell on the door for the tea room part of the shop. Josie had pure white hair, said to have gone white overnight. Leslie her brother was a great gambler on horse racing and I could always find my father there! Their father was nicknamed 'Blighty' as he lost all his strawberries in one season to blight. When I was an infant he came through my father's land to pick dandelions for his rabbits. As a matter of interest, he was a pupil at the Dame school in Freegrounds and that opened in 1835! I remember Millie well, she bought me an Easter egg when I was 4, but I remember most fondly "Uncle" Robert who emigrated to Florida with his wife and daughter Ann. My children visited him each year until his death. He phoned through enormous bets for my father to place in this country on horses, tennis players, anything! When he visited we had parties at Botleigh Grange. As you may be aware, Josephine's is now built on but the shop is still there, sadly there is no little bell on the door to tell Josie there was a customer. Best wishes, Heather
