Born in Little London
I was born in Salisbury Hospital in August 1953, my parents lived in Little London, Heytesbury until 1955 when we moved to a new bungalow in Newtown, Heytesbury. The house we lived in is on the left looking at the photo pass the wall to the Vicarage.
Living in Newtown, Heytesbury
Having lived in Little London, Heytesbury for the first 2 years of my life in 1955 we moved to a brand new bungalow in Newtow, Heytesbury (on opposite side of road to houses shown). The houses shown in this picture were all built by the Heytesbury Estate and were sold off over a number of years. At the time this picture was taken they had no bathrooms or inside toilets.
John And Hannah Kyte
Just found out my great great grandparants, John and Hannah Kyte lived there. John's occupation was horse carter. Hannah's maiden name was Huberd.
Years Ago.
My grandparents lived in the old rectory which was a few hundred yards from the Beckford Arms. I spent many happy holidays there with my cousins. We had wonderful Christmases, lots of snow and in the better weather long bike rides. Idyllic days. Shopping in Tisbury, and going to Wardour Castle, also my grandfather liked to go to Scats.
Artist Jessie Currie
I have two water colour painting by Jessie Currie of Teffont Mill . Jessie Currie went on to illustrate for Raphael Tuck the producer of postcards in the 1900 . She also illustrated two children books -Sunshine and Flowers and Once upon a time . Published 1910 . Any information on Jessie Currie would help in my research . My two painting are of the front and rear view of Teffont Mill I feel they were painted in the early 1900 . It is over a hundred years ago maybe someone can shed some light on my mystery artist. Race You to The Water
I am ordering a copy of this picture to send to my dear childhood friend, Peta Fenner. Peta celebrates her 50th birthday soon and it is quite possible that both her and I are in the photo. We would spend many days of our summer holidays playing in the paddling pool. The big pool was always cold and swamped with older children and we would have to build up courage to venture there. Our childhood was filled with laughter. We would giggle at anything and everything. From peering through the holes in the wood partitions separating the cubicles at the end of the pool. To laughing at how courting teenagers behaved. I remember us nearly wetting ourselves laughing at dog ends and kinky boots. Warminster 1963
When I was 18 years old, back in that horrible winter of 1963, I used to live for a while with my aunt and uncle, Norah and Pat Kelly, who ran The Weymouth Arms in Warminster. At that time they were also involved in the running of another pub in Warminster called The Globe or Old Globe. I used to walk there every day, open the pub up, set the coal fire going, do any cellar work required etc and serve all of the smashing old codgers with their cider. By this time the fire was nice and hot and so was the poker that they used to mull their pints with. As you may imagine I have very fond memories of this old pub and have tried to find it on the net no luck, no luck that is until today when I found a pub called The Snooty Fox, this place looks like how I remember the globe and would dearly love to think that I have...
