Searl Street
Oh, what a joy to find this photograph. Between the Market Inn and the shop was a little unmade lane called Searl Street. I was born at number five, at my grandparents' house, in October 1945.
Over the years I returned to Bracknell on many occasions to visit relatives, the last time I visited was in the 1980s and I was shocked to find the lane had disappeared, along with the house I was born in.
If anyone out there remembers the Tomkins family please leave a post.

RE: RE: Searl Street
I would imagine Searl Street was named after my Searle ancestors who lived at Warfield for generations.

As a youngster I remember sitting outside pub with a lemonade shandy whilst the Simmonds family, Alf, sold his home made sausages, and Bert? was the grocer that had a van and traveled around selling from it, also Dick, he was my foster father. The market if I recal correctly was down Searl Street, that's why all the farmers met there. Alf had a pig farm near the swimming pool, Harmonds water area. Colin

I remember the Tomkins family, they had the bakery in the High Street, used to line up for fresh bread on Saturdays, the smell was great. My wife worked for them as a teenager. They had a son, David, who married Jenny Plumber? if my memory is correct. Colin
