Cononley
I was born in Buttershaw in Bradford. I moved to Cononley at the age of 5 and have spent happy times in and around the village.
Living just outside the village parish lines at this time our family became very involved in the village itself. Attending the church of St John's at Sunday School.
People who may know me now as my married name may remember me as Ibbotson. Our father bought the paper round from Mrs Lamb when the chance arose which meant all of us delivered the papers around it.
My eldest brother Phillip became a Sunday School teacher I became a chorister and was crowned Gala Queen in the summer of 1977. This year Jimmy Naylor won the fell race and pipes and drums led the fancy dress parade around the village.
I go camping there now every year in the farmers campsite across the River Aire behind the house I spent most of my childhood.

Young Years
I lived in New Mill, but I thought it was Cononley. I went to school there and had some wonderful years charging around the village, this is going back from 1947 to1963, when I got married. I then left to live in Scotland until 1967, when I came to Canada. I still come back to Cononley, when I come over. I won the cup at the gala one year - I love the little village. I was back there in 2006 and had a walk around where my sister lives, on what we called 'frying pan row'. I also made it up to the Pinnacle - spent many a summer day up there with a bottle of water (all we had back then). Anyone remember me, Winnie Pinder?
A Playground
This was the entry onto the moor, the Moor Gate in the centre leads towards Long Wood. At the right hand side there is a gate, a stone stile by its side, just over the stile and a little way up the moor is Rankin's Well. Over the wall on left is a rocky beck, perfect for building dams. Often it was sunny and clear up here, whilst Skipton was shrouded by smog from all the houses and mill chimneys. Our playground.
My Schooldays 1952-54 Near Skipton
My Grandparents lived at 26 Otley Street in Skipton from the 1940 ( or earlier ) and I had first visited them in 1945 after VE day, They were Thomas Henry Jackson, my Grandmother Charlotte Jackson and their batchelor son, my Uncle Gordon.
My Father Norman Jackson and Mother Sadie Jackson were living in Belfast Northern Ireland since 1934 where I was born in 1938, and because my Paternal Grandparents were living in Skipton, my Dad wanted me to attend boarding school in Yorkshire to give me a sense of Yorkshire identity.
So following holiday trips in 1945 and also 1949 I believe, by which time I had become attached to my Grandparents and Uncles ( the older Arnold Jackson lived in Haworth, and my Aunt Millie Jackson lived in Bingley ), he enrolled me in 1951/52 at Hartlington Hall between Burnsall and Appletreewick on the hills overlooking the River Wharfe.

Childhood in War Time Silsden
I grew up in Silsden and also worked in Silsden, as a weaver at Stocks Mill. I lived at 52 New Rd or shed side, as it was known. We lived almost opposite Fletchers mill gates, in a back-to-back two bedroomed terraced house, with outside shared toile . I attended Aire View Primary School with the Headmistress, Miss Smith. I later went to Silsden Secondary Modern School with Claughton, Leadbetter and Manners as Headmasters. My teachers were Tindall (science), Dewhurst (woodwork and metalwork), Broughton,(from Sutton) two Winstanley sisters (Ethel and Connie), Holiday(art teacher with big boobies), who married the sports teacher Mr Feather. Miss Horsfall (my favourite), Irwin (cookery) and Scull (maths). I remember the school lunches, which my mum gave me two shillings a week for. For the war time years, I think they were quite good. Friends
It could have been earlier or even later....my memories of a girl called Elaine Potter and us playing tea parties at her house with her dad's homemade apple wine........Yvonne Blackie I think lived in the Rectory.....I think we were about 5 or 6 years old.....my name was Lynn Carney then and we lived in Wighill Street...when we first moved to Sutton-in -Craven we lived in a mill house that was on a cobble street and the houses were back to back, one up, one down. I have some very fond memories of that village.
School And Friends
My name then was Barrett. I remember living on Walton Street, Holmebridge. My best friend then was Dorothy Hobson, we lived at no 6 and she lived at no 18 I think. I went to the council school where the headmaster was Mr Laycock. My best teacher was Mrs Baker. And I remember going to the sweet shop next to the park, I think it was called Ogdens.
