Syddal Farm was once the home of the Ashbrook family and originally stood on this site where the shops are standing in the photograph. My Grandparents William Hannah and their children Jack and Betty farmed there although Grandfather passed away in his forties due to a weak heart. I think they had dairy shorthorn cattle at that time. The black and white farmhouse was demolished before WW2 I believe and Hannah was one of 12 brothers and sisters and one of the Goulden family before her marriage. My mother Betty was not too keen on the old farm as you had to use a pump for water but my grandmother when visiting her sister up Woodford Road hated to see it all laid to waste before the shops were built.
