Staturday Morning Pictures
My brother and I and friends would all go to the Palladium, we would watch Cowboy and Indian films and we would all boo when the Indians came on. We also saw great cartoons. I think we payed 6 pence. We all sang the Saturday morning song "We are the Boys and Girls " ... and I can't rememember the rest of the words. All I know is I loved going, I would look forward to Saturday morning.

RE: RE: Staturday Morning Pictures
The Saturday morning pictures song we used to sing to at the Mayfair, Tooting goes "We are the boys and girls well known as minors of the ABC, and every Saturday all line up to sing along and have a laugh aloud with glee. We like to laugh and have a sing song, such a happy crowd are we, we're all pals together - we're minors of the ABC". I remember movies with Flash Gordon and Roy Rogers and after seeing a Roy Rogers movie we used to tie our jackets aroung our necks and "gallop" part way home. Happy days.

RE: RE: Saturday Morning Pictures
I was brought up at Brixton from 1944 until 1969, when I married and moved away to Luton to be nearer my work at Elstree Borehamwood. I lived at 146 Leander Road in those days. I remember the Palladium well, and saw many a great movies there with my mother, my brother, and two cousins. My mother would pass the sandwiches along the line and we'd munch away as we watched the film. I did the Saturday Morning Minors bit, but went to the Regal Streatham for that. Funnily enough I became a projectionist after leaving school and worked at both cinemas as well as others around the south London ABC circuit, including the Mayfair Tooting for a short while. I went to Effra Parade infant and junior school and on to Santley Street School for hooligans. It wasn't long after that that Tulse Hill School was opened and I was transferred to there. My greatest love of Brixton though, was the 'pie and mash/stewed eel' shop. Double pie and mash with liquor was always my Saturday main meal.
