Childhood Adventure
I'm not prepared to reveal my real name online, however I was a child during the 70's the duration of which was spent in Warnham. This house belonged to some old dear I met only a couple of times, she was housebound and terribly old. She was cared for by the mother of my schoolfriend, whose name I also shan't reveal online. However I spent many, many days playing in and around this house. What a delight to see it again after all this time!
It was demolished sometime during the 1980s, as far as I'm aware, or soon after. I recollect it was full of wood panelling, the hallway and staircase were a sight to behold. It had games rooms, and all sorts. I'm sure I remember a billiard room. The kitchens were huge. I recall two massive old-fashioned Agas. Of course, being staff (and in my case, guests of staff) we were generally confined to the back areas of the house, with the occasional request by the... Read more
My Grandparents
I believe my grandparents worked at Warnham Court during this period. I have some photos of the staff and house etc. My grandfather's name was Arthur Butler.
Warnham Court Boarding School
I attended Warnham Court when it was a school. It remained a very good school right through to the 1990s when it was closed and revamped in a rather horrid way and sold off as individual flats.. some houses were built on what used to be our classrooms and others built along the beautiful drive that had a fantastic pinetum on either side of it. It was surrounded by the beautiful deer park.. I can almost hear the deer rutting.
It had a fascinating ice house and mesmerising sunken gardens and statues of Pan in the terraces and gardens. I also remember palm trees growing and huge Canadian redwoods and an ancient cork tree!
I really miss my days from school. I have a site for ex Warnham Court Pupils and their families, teachers and staff.
