St Lo
A place on Westcliff Road, Broadstairs, during the early sixties, named St Lo. Used as a skating rink, and as a dance rock n roll club, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Anyone having any descriptive memories, of this St Lo, social hall - rock n roll club, I would be most interested. The details of the building escape me. Yet, during those early sixties, it was one of the very few places, where we teens could not only listen to our records being played, but be able to dance to them as well. It was a much needed and much appreciated venue by us teens . Any memories, please. Thank you.

RE: RE: St Lo
Hello! I'm a 15 year old girl named Sophie Hadley and guess what? I live in St Lo on Westcliff Road!! Ever since I was two weeks old it's been inhabited by my family and I and we love it, except for the fact that it's EXTREMELY haunted... but I guess that makes things all the more interesting...! I'm FASCINATED by my house's history and we would all love to get in touch with you and hear your stories of times spent here! Thanks!

RE: RE: St Lo
Hi, I used to go to St Lo in the 1960s. I lived in Margate but went to school at Haddon Dene in Broadstairs. As you say, St Lo was one of the few places we could go to listen to the new music that was exploding around us. Groups like the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers etc. etc. Compared to today it all seems very tame, just dancing and listning to records. No alcohol served, just soft drinks and crisps. If my memory serves me right, it was run by a husband and wife. The other local place to go was the Grand Hotel on, I think, Friday or Saturday nights. That was live music. People like Joe Brown and the Bruvers, Gene Vincent, who was always late. Same old story, he had crashed his car, but as soon as he got out of the A & E he would be on stage. The only downside to St Lo was a group of Irish boys who always wanted to take somebody outside and beat them up. Besides that, Happy Days
