Pub Name

Is anyone able to tell me the name of what I presume is a Pub in the photo (just after the thatched cottage) - I am researching my family history and find all my ancestors come from Brockenhurst and the surrounding areas. I would be grateful if anyone was able to enlighten me about this pub name.

RE: RE: Pub Name

My Grandfather, Grandmother and Father used to live in Brockenhurst many years ago when my Grandfather worked for Lord and Lady Manton, in service. He used to be involved with looking after the horses that were used to follow the hunt. My Grandmother used to tend to the "lady" of the house, and used to iron her nightdress every day, amongst other chores.

I visited Brockenhurst in 1974 and remember a quaint village, and also going into a pub called maybe the Crown for a ploughman's meal and a scrumpy cider. I remember the New Forest ponies wandering around quite freely.

My problem now is that we have just visited Brockenhurst and I didn't recognise anything really. The Rose and Crown looked vaguely familiar.
Has anyone got any pictures of Brockenhurst in 1974?

RE: RE: Pub Name

The pub is the Foresters Arms, 10 Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

RE: RE: Pub Name

Sam Collins has confirmed that this is correct, the pub was called the Foresters Arms. See also his comments added about the picture. Sam lived at Wisteria Cottage on the railway crossing from 1926-1943 when he joined the army and married then settled in Windsor. He has many memories of the village and recalls people, places, names and life in the village. Sam is 84 yreas old now and his memory is very vivid of times past.
