Schooldays
I was born in Broken Cross and went to the old infant school when Mrs. Richards, Miss Lomax and Mrs. Frith were the teachers there. I seem to remember school concerts being held round the corner in a building just before the start of Gawsworth Road. When I was small the Post Office was in one of the cottages on the hill going down into the village but the counter was too high for me to see over. The newsagent's shop was kept by Mr. and Mrs. Dale. On Sundays we walked up to Henbury Church where I was later married when Rev. Jones was the Vicar.

RE: RE: Schooldays
I read this with great interest and wondered who wrote it. I am the grandaughter of Mrs Richards. I do not remember her saying much about either Miss Lomax or Mrs Frith, but she talked a great deal about Mrs Brown, whose husband was Bill Brown, (a redoubtable Head Teacher in Macclesfield and Mrs Ruffell, who lived at Capesthorne Cottage near to Henbury Church. Mrs Ruffell was for many years the "backbone" of Siddington Church Choir. She refered to them as 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' claiming the latter for herself. It was Mrs Ruffell who persuaded my Grandmother to weather the storm when I put in my appearance on a boat in January some 57 years ago.
