Childhood Memories

I have very happy memories of a childhood spent in Mynydd Isa. I was only there for 4 years ('72 - '76) but I crammed a lot of adventures into that time! My friend Audra and I used to go cycling down Rose Lane and look a the 'haunted house' across the fields, never daring to go inside. (It was an old wooden building, derelict at the time). We spent many hours at the bonk! - the local playing field, and would walk up to the building sites in Buckley and climb in and out of the clay pipes. We also used to walk 2 chow dogs called Idris and Ady, (they were really big and fluffy) and used to walk to Bryn a Bal school, which seemed miles, and call at the shops on the way. My house was No 75 Mold Road on the corner of Mercia Drive, and I remember I had the room with the veranda above the garage. The corner shop at the top of... Read more

Year 6

I've had soo many good times at Gwernymynydd C.P. School with all my friends, they are over but I will come back.

Little Mountain

Hello, I am serching for any info on my dad, Charles Howarth Shone who lived on Little Mountain Road around 1945 - 1970. His father was Charles (Charlie?). They were related to Cyril and Olwyn Shone who lived on the opposite side of the road. I believe he went to Hawarden Grammer School and used to catch the train. Another relation is Tom Shone - I believe married to Gwen. Apologies for the vagueness but when you are young details don't sink in and as you get older you realise it's too late. Many thanks.

Colomendy Camp School

I attended Colomendy School for about two years, coming from the City of Liverpool. I was fascinated with all the open spaces and especially the mountain - Moel Fammu. I can remember having great times there: walking into Mold Village and day trips out, climbing the Catwalk, visiting the camp cinema, the tuck shop.
Then in 1949 I had to return to Tiber Street School for my leaving. I am now 71 but will never forget my time spent at Loggerheads. The local people were always very kind to us.

Father's Birthplace

My late father, Clement Leslie Chandler, was born at Pontybodkin in 1896. The family home was No 1 The Nant (the house was still standing when I visited in 1996).

Fathers Date of Birth

Correction Norman. Dad was born in 1893 NOT 1896

Holidays in The Early 50's

I have very fond memories of coming on a number of occasions to some wooden chalets in Pantymwyn, I think 3 in number. They were in a clearing in the woods and I believe they were used by employees of Liverpool Council. My father worked for Liverpool Council at the time and I remember coming with my mum and dad and 7 or 8 of their friends whom I called aunts and uncles. There were 2 sleeping huts and men and women slept separately, and a living hut with kitchen. There were wooden steps up to the chalets and I have several photos of myself and others sitting on these steps. Simple games were played and a swing for me to play on was built in the trees. We picnicked on the grass and life was so pleasant and simple and the days were so sunny. One evening we all walked to a nearby bungalow for a magic lantern show and I was bought my first lolly ice in the... Read more
