Bromsgrove Institute in High Street
My husband's grandfather Eustace Egbert George Duffill was born in 1869 at the Bromsgrove Institue in the High Street. Please can anyone tell me whether the Institute building features in any of the photographs of the High Street. I believe his father was librarian there.

RE: RE: Bromsgrove Institute in High Street
Has anyone answered your query? Just noticed it. I understood that the Institute was in New Road, about 80 yards up from the High Street, next to the old Cottage Hospital. Both were Victorian buildings of the same vintage, probably built at the same time. By the 1940's it was used as an overflow Annexe for the High School - I spent my first year at the High School there in 1948-49. I can send you a scan of the building if you wish.

PS I was at primary school with a Kenneth (or was it George?) Duffill, any relation?

Thanks Keith, I would like to have a scan of the building. I haven't had any offers of pictures to date. I also wrote to the Bromsgrove library but they didn't have a photograph of the old Institute. I have lost all my old emails so I can't be sure, but I think they said the institute had moved at some stage and that it was originally in the High Street. It is possible that your building is a later one but I would still be pleased to see your scan.
At present we do not have enough information on the Bromsgrove Duffills to answer your query about your school friend, there were a lot of Duffills, but it would seem likely that they were all related .
Thank you for your interest in my query.

My mother lived at 9 De Wyche Close with her parents (my grandparents), George and Evelyn Baxter. Grandad was a policeman and Granny a teacher.
My mum also became a police officer. I remember two of her close girlfriends were named Janet, one possibly with the surname Hardy?
Mum and Dad were married in the cathedral and my grandad often visited the Crown before it became the Poachers Pocket.
I have been there twice now but not since my grandparents passed.
Interested to know if there's been much change.
