Fishing 1965 on The North Forty Drain
We all went to stop on a farm near Landgrick Road in the year 1965 for one week of fishing, we all came from Pinxton and South Normanton, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, catching loads of fish, bream, tench, pike, perch and eels. On the map it said Toft Tunnel, it was near a stone bridge, fishing on the North Forty foot bank and the fishing was great.

RE: RE: Fishing 1965 on The North Forty Drain
In the early 1950s when Willer & Rileys the canning factory was canning peas, we would fish off the wall outside the factory which was situated not far from the sea locks. A metal pipe came out of the steel pylons and let out pea water mixed with discarded peas; this seemed to make the fish ravenous, you could pull out fish as fast as you could cast back in; we didn't have a keep net, the water level was about eight feet below the wall, we had some great fishing. The factory was where Somerfields supermarket is now in London Road. The same applied outside Lovelaces cockle factory further up the Fortyfoot.
