Brympton D'evercy - as I Knew it Claire School
I spent as a boy four years from 1970 to 1974 at this magnificent house, as it was a boys' boarding school. It was a fantastic place to be as a 10 year old, to study and grow up.
I yearn to return and see its splendid huge wooden staircase we use to slide down, its hamstone turret stairscases, and the japanese garden that we spent many hours tending due to detention!!!!
I hope the house is still in good hands it is a national treasure in my eyes and I feel privliged to have lived there for four years of Brympton's long history.

RE: RE: Brympton D'evercy - as I Knew it Clare School
RE: Clare School I too was at Clare School, from 1958-60. Harold Treacher Bowden was, indeed, the Headmaster, with a Mr Bennett as his deputy, I believe. The school building, Coker Court, is still exactly where it was(!), up the long drive past the Almshouses; although now in private ownership. Other contemporaries I recall are Ferguson, Dixon and Tony Fussell. Our English teacher was one Commander Maleson RN (Ret'd, who appeared on a TV quiz show of the time -'Dotto', winning 205! As far as Brympton D'Evercy is concerned, this became Clare's senior school around 1960/61 and I remember that many of us were transported there to clear it out and prepare it in Summer 1960 - something that would probably not be 'allowed' today by the crazy PC/Health & Safety brigade - but we had a lot of fun!
