More about this scene

Victorian visitors to this coast had to be more adventurous than those who opted for the genteel delights of, say, Sidmouth or Torquay. The landscape is far more rugged, and the climate less mild; local writer Charles Kingsley described the weather as combining 'the soft warmth of south Devon with the bracing freshness of the Welsh mountains'.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

What a lovely vacation we had that year. When I see photos of Buck's Mills, like this one, I am transported back to those precious days under the sun. People that live on in my heart are there. I remember so clearly the path by the store, I remember running up and down this road with my sister. We thought those moments would last forever. They do.
