More about this scene

This was a Cistercian abbey founded in 1135 by Roger de Clinton, Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield. This picture shows the remains of the nave, noted for its sturdy-looking round pillars that support a series of Norman arches.

A Selection of Memories from Buildwas

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Buildwas

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My name is Nigel Baugh, I lived in Buildwas until the age of 21 when I got married and moved out. My parents still live in the village at the top of the road. Life was good, play around, up the woods making dens, riding bikes down the road at brake neck speeds and getting a clip round the ear off the folks, which never did us any harm. Sadly time has moved on but nice memories
I was known as Katie Baker, I lived at No.4 Park View. Looking back life was simple, enjoying the changes of the seasons knowing you would be snowed in in winter, and flooded out in the spring. Watching the boar come up the Severn. I remember playing on the sandbanks when the river was low, the strong community spirit and singing in the choir.
