Warwickshire memories
Bramcote Children's Hospital
I was admitted to Bramcote Children's Hospital (as a boarder) in January 1971 when I was 9. I remember having my 10th birthday there and Mr Mullen brought in a cake for me and everyone sang happy birthday. It was the best birthday ever. I was there for 6 months for asthma along with alot of other children who were there for different illnesses. It gave respite to the children who were struggling with their conditions (some were severely disabled) and not being able to consistently attend school and respite to the parents who were struggling along with it and in my case, my father was dying at the time, so my brother and I were sent there for our asthma conditions and for our Mum who was caring for my Dad who didnt have long to live. I remember feeling very upset at being separated from my Mum and Dad, but somehow I managed to settle in and now I have such 'idyllic time-stopping' memories of a sheltered... Read more
ABC Minors Club
Seeing the photograph of the old Ritz cinema reminded me of the time when I was a member of the Ritz Minors Club from approx. 1947 until 1952. We all paid 6 old pence to have a morning at the "pictures" watching films like Flash Gordon, Tarzan and many others. As time went on and I reached , what I thought, was a ripe old age the building on the other corner the "Coach and Horses" pub was one of the places where on a Saturday night we would go and spend the evening. If anyone should remember me, Don "Crowie" Baxter, I still live in Nuneaton (aged now 66) at 39 Kingsbridge Road Nuneaton, or if anyone remembers my friend Gordon "Fred" Rowley who played trombone and went to KEGS and has any information on him (I believe he went to live in America as a musician) I would be most grateful if you would get in touch with me to share any memories. email address is donbaxter1@btinternet.com
Strolling in The Town
The person in the white macintosh walking towards the camera is myself, Bob Vincent with a friend, Peter Watkins. I lived at 4, Shepperton Street, Chllvers Coton (opposite the Vicarage) and Peter lived in Coton Road close to the Arches. I emigrated with my family to Perth, Western Australia in 1970. We used to frequent the Lido milkbar next to the Post Office. Should anyone wish to contact me, I can be reached by email bobbysue@iinet.net.au

Barpool Road in The 50's
My Mum's family lived on Barpool road (Nan and Gramps still do) and she often tells us how the kids in the street played together with giant skipping ropes made from the washing line that went across the street. Also about the mischief the gang of kids got up to (all innocent). My mum's family are the Reays, my mum is one of the twins (Shelagh).
Do you have any memories to share about this time?
Thanks.
Tree
Hello,
When I was a small girl I used to be taken to Monks Kirby by my grand parents, I think an ancester lived there way back in time.
My grandmother always insisted that I kissed a tree, I think it was outside the Bell Inn ., was this just one of grandma's "odd things to do" or does anyone know of a tradition, about kissing trees? its always intrigued me.
Regards, Ann
School Days in Monks Kirby
I vividly remember my days as a boarder at the convent school in Monks Kirby. I was very young when I attended this school, but the memories have never left me, and I believe my experiences there shaped my personality to a large extent. Are there any other ex-pupils who attended Monks Kirby school around the same time? I would love to hear some of your memories!
