Lawrence Tait Williams- A Resident of Kirby
I come from Poland. I met L.T. Williams (Uncle Bill for me) when he was visiting Poland some years earlier. To be honest, he made me learn English, he invited me and my brother to Kirby then his son David and his wife Elizabeth invited me to Maidenhead. It all seemed like a fairy tale as Poland was a diiferent country then. Now it`s slowly reaching the state your country was in when I arrived here. Uncle Bill was and still is my hero, who showed me the world and taught me not only language but values. I owe so much to him and his family. I miss Kirby- such a picturesque and typically English place. Now I`m an English teacher myself and I pass these values to my students. Thanks Uncle Bill!
DODSWORTH FAMILY TREE
I have been tracing the Dodsworth family tree and a lot of my research has brought me to the village of Thornton Watlass. The Dodsworths did and still own the hall so I'm hoping there may be some history to be found. If any body has any informtion or photos please, please get in touch at staceychristina@hotmail.com. Thank you.
Wedding Day
I was married in this church on 23rd December 1950 to Eunice Ethel Smith who lived at High Mill Cottage.
Family Memories
Relatives of my mum, she is 85 years young, originally ran the Malt Shovel Inn in Crakehall. My mum was born in 1925 so this must have been the 1920s to 1930s. I have old photos of the Malt Shovel then but can find no records of them.
