Childhood Days

A Memory of Burnhope.

I was also born in Burnhope our address was Beachgrove Road, went to the school around 1951 my teacher was Miss Douglas. Migrated to Australia in 1952 with my parents. Do not remember a lot but spent time singing for a lolly in Rutherfords Shop. Had a friend called Dianne Henderson only two girls in our street. Dad returned home from the war married and worked there until we moved to Australia. My Grandparents lived at Holmside. Remember the Park behind our house and a lane way to the side of our house . Spent many hours in the Park. Have never been back but found our old house I think on google earth, and my daughter went there when over seas. Would love to find someone from my childhood in Burnhope. Christine Laidler.

Hi. It was good to hear from you. Yes it is the same Dianne Henderson. I saw her about two and half years ago when I was in Burnhope at a funeral. I don't know if she has an email address but I think I might have a phone number for her so will try and contact her. It is so lovely to hear from someone who lived here all those years ago. Dianne is living back in the house she grew up in. I am having trouble trying to email you that is why I am replying on here. Maureen
Hi again Maureen, have just re entered the site and read your last comment. Would really love to contact Dianne, can't remember the number of their old house but know it is in Beach Grove Road. Have also been in touch with someone whose Father lived with my Grandparents for sometime in Holmside and my Uncle and his wife are her Godparents. I was so excited to hear more of my life before Australia. Will give you my email address as it will be good to have more communication with you personally. Have been in communication with the daughter of the father who resided with my grandparents and it is so much more personalised. Anyway here it is and hopefully you will be able to reply via the email. jackchrism@bigpond.com. Cheers Christine
Hi again. It was lovely to hear from you. I have spoken to Dianne and given her your email address. She said she will contact you when she can as she is still caring for her mam who is now 95. My server won't let me send an email back to you. Have contacted them but they couldn't sort it for me. I have her emai address so maybe you will want to contact her. It is diannelane@talktalk.net. Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers Maureen.
Hi. Thank you for your email. I have tried again to email you but still didn't work. Just wanted to let you know I am on Facebook so would be another way to send messages. Just let me know if you are on Facebook. Maureen
Sorry not very good at this. Have lost all your messages. If you still have them could you please send them again. Thanks Maureen.
