Memories of Clwyd
When I Joined The Royal Air Force 22nd May 1952
I attended the Presbyterian Church Rossett Primary School in Station Road before attending the new school near Tom Bishop's shop, where I first bought my first cigarettes, Willy Woodbines, 5 for a shilling. I remember the fish and chips near the butcher, the Butchers Arms. Drink at the Alan Hotel in Station Road. Chandles the grocery and bread in Station Road. Ann the daughter. Lived in Burton Road, "Anfield", next to field where the big dip was. My father Jack Griffiths was on the council and Wrexham Rural Districit council. MAYOR Les Ankers, John Taylor used go to the Alan Hotel every Friday & Saturday evenings. That's just some of my memories. Now in Victoria, Australia since 1966. Married 2 children 3 grandkids. Well retired. Best wishes to those who remember me. Can email me if they like, would love to hear from anyone. Rev. James was Minister of Presbyterian Church. Mr Fred Witt. Head Master of the school, with Harry Costain. Bye for now, Regards John
BORN HERE
I was born at Trevalyn Manor in August 1953. I have returned to The Golly these last few years for short holidays and still love the place. Does anyone know when the place closed as a maternity hospital? A lot of people will remember my brother David (Dai) Williams who is 12 years older than me. He has been asking about old school friends and neighbours, so if anyone can remember him we would love to know.
Trevalyn Hospital
I was born in this hospital on the 30/09/1955, my name was Derek Jones. After my birth I was adopted in Nov 1955, I am trying to find my birth mother, I have got her birth certificate but can't find if she married or not. I've been out a lot of money buying certificates but can't find my mother as Jones is a common name in Wales. I found my mother's mum, dad and great-grand parents. My mother's name is Lilian Mary Jones born 2 Feb 1934 and lived in 20 Bowydd Street, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Can anyone help me trying to trace my mother please?
PLACE OF BIRTH
This is the hospital where I was born in July 1947. My parents were living in Penycae at the time but in 1951 moved to England for my Dad's job. Apart from a brief visit to a relative in Wrexham in 1960, I have never returned to Wales and it is now my ambition to see Trevalyn Manor and Penycae.
Original Owner of The Plough
My Great, Great Grandfather, Thomas Evans was the original owner of The Plough. While doing some research into my family tree I discovered in the 1861 Wales Census that he was listed as a farmer(owner of 10 acres of land) and publican of the Plough Inn. He lived there with his wife Jane and son Robert and twins Edward and Eliza. Edward is my Great Grandfather. His son George immigrated to Canada but George's brother (another Thomas) lived in Gresford all of his life. I have more recent photographs of The Plough taken by my Aunt on a visit in the 80's.
