East Crescent
My mother was born in East Crescent and she probably went to Enfield girls school. Her name was Faith Hill and her mother Ada ran a drapers. her father William Hill was ill with cancer but before that he was a monumental mason. he stopped a runaway horse but got badly injured. He died 1916. I wondered if anyone had any photos or a paper article about this. Or if anyone remembers my family and when they emigrated in 1924 on the corinthic. other members of the family were Ruth and Rachel and they had a brother Leonard who died as a baby. my grandmother moved down to Rettendon before the war. I would be interested to hear any info. Vicki

RE: RE: East Crescent
Dear Victoria,
I have read your message on The Francis Frith Collection website andwas interested to read about your family, especially about your grandfather being injured by a runaway horse. I have been trying to research my family tree, and I know that my grandfather was left an orphan when his mother was killed by a runaway horse. I don't know when this happened, but my grandad was born in 1896. He spent his adult life in Barnet and moved to Bush Hill later on, where he died. I don't know if he came from Bush Hill originally. Isn't it strange that we both have ancestors who had a nasty encounter with a runaway horse?! I wonder if it was the same incident, if your grandad tried to save my grandma? I am trying to find out what I can, and if I unearth anything of interest, I shall let you know. Do you know anything else? Best wishes to you,
Maria Phillips.

Hi Maria, it's weird that your name Philips was I think my grandfather's mother's maiden name, and she was married to Henry Sheldon Hill. My grandmother Ada was living in Bush Hill Park when the incident happened. I would be interested in more of your family tree. Thanks for the message, my email is vredman@tiscali.co.uk
