Lovely Childhood Memories of Caister
From a baby in the sixties up until my late teens in the eighties, I spent two weeks in August every year in Caister with my family. These were the happiest times of my life. We were on the beach every day for two weeks every year, and the weather was always hot and sunny. I particularly remember my brother and I going to the wooden cafe every day on Caister Beach, for chocolate. It was run by a couple who also ran a bookshop in Potter Heigham I seem to remember. Although my parents got to know them well over the years, we never knew their names but they got to know us year on year, and would look out for us. Does anyone remember the cafe? I visited Caister again when I was about 20 around 1987 and sadly the cafe had completely disappeared. Does anyone remember this couple, and perhaps know their names? They may sadly no longer be around now. But they were very happy days.

RE: RE: Lovely Childhood Memories of Caister
Our family always used to go the Caister Holiday Camp the last (carnival)week of the season. And, although it was not really part of the camp I remember the beach cafe and the couple who ran it well. Sadly I never got to know their names but, as a child , I also remember playing in the bunker nearby. Sadly it dissapeared but I remember well the wooden steps next to it to the beach and having a cake and drink in the cafe.

RE: RE: Lovely Childhood Memories of Caister
I am from Caister but have lived in Stockport for 20 years. I used to go to the cafe when I was a boy.
Sadly, it got washed away in the storms of 1987 along with the bunker. It had something to do with the reinforced sea defences at Sea Palling. Much of Caister beach was eroded also taking away some of the dunes. I don't know who the couple were but I have relatives in Potter and can find out who owned the cafe.
Kind regards
Andrew
