Green Acres Approved School For Girls

A Memory of Calne.

I also remember Greenacres School. My mother was the nurse there,May Wright. We lived opposite the school and during the sixties the girls occasionally babysat for my sister and I.I remember once they found my mothers wedding dress, tried it on and broke the zip!My mum and dad are still in that house and I have very fond memories of Greenacres and the adjoining farm.

I remember your mother very well, she was a no nonsense type of lady, but i think she was a caring one as well I was taken ill with tonsilistis when i was a greenacres girl and she cared for me very well! I remember that house i thought it was wonderful that they are still living in it!
I am looking for my cousin Lois Ann Henley who was at Green Acres in 1967 - does anyone remember her or have contact with her please? Linda McCue
Hi Linda MCU. I remember ur cousin Lois Henley very well. We used to be a bit over weight so Mrs wright put u on a diet so we were the only two girls on a diet. I remember Lois was mixed race. I also remember her mum and brother. Her mum was blonde. Hope u find her. Pleas keep me informed. X
I remember your mum very well, I also remember u Francis. Your mums sister was the farm lady miss tregenza. I used to be on the farm and became a young farmer. Your mum put me and another girl Lois Henley on a diet and we did very well under your mums supervision. Please say hi to ur mum for me. I was there 65-66. Miss Goldsmith was head. Terrible woman. Very cruel.
My name isn't Francis it is Amanda, my sister is Susan, also, miss Tregenza isn't my mums sister- however I passed on your comment to my mum and she was delighted that she was remembered with such fondness. She remembers all of the girls and she wasn't too keen on Miss Goldsmith either!Shes not doing so well since she broke her leg,I'm trying to persuade her to get a mobility scooter otherwise she's sofa-bound.
I was at Greenacres from august 1964 till april 1966 I remember Mrs Wright she was the nurse always running around, she called the doctor who confirmed I was pregnant I had the baby on the 3rd april 1965 at Bradford-on-avon maternity hospital then returned to girls hostel devises for 6 weeks, then returned to greenacres until 1966, I was in the typing class, the teacher was lovely I cant remember her name, Miss Goldsmith was firm but fair, do you remember Barbara her maid. Your mum was lovely to me, I remember when I visited the school after leaving that she put me up for the night,
until I returned home the next day, to Leicester. I remember Mrs Glyde, she lived across the road, in a bungalow, so many characters cant name them all. It taught me a thing or two, fond memories to this day.
Can you confirm if you are all referring Greenacres Approved School in Hampshire, UK?

No I don't think she would still be living now I remember her very well she could be a harsh lady for saying she was a nurse
