Summer Days Beside The Cam

A Memory of Cambridge.

From 1947 to 1956 we lived at Hardwick and drove into Cambridge once a month
I enjoyed it on hot summer Saturdays, when we would have a picnic on the backs overlooking Kings College.
I remember seeing the sad sight of disabled soliders wheeling their three wheeler bikes by hand. There was about twenty of them from a Cambridge hospital and they travelled out to Hardwick.
I was about seven at the time in 1953.
Olivia Newton John,(the singer) was born two years before my sister at Addenbrooke's Hospital in 1948.
Cambridge was a wonderful place to be during rag week.
The undergraduates were well dressed in the early 50's and swaggered with walking sticks.Very Upper class with Ties,Cravats, and Harris Tweed suits.
Open Top sports cars and young girls wrapped in Fur.
