A Trip Down Cargo Fleet

I lived in Cargo Fleet in the back end of the 1960s. There was a shop on the end of our row. I went to Lawson School. We played near a beck or river near some works. I fell in and was pulled out by a young teenager. I never got to thank him as I would not be here now residing in Ripon with a wife and 3 children. Does anyone know the name of the street as I was very young? Tthere was a football ground a bit further down the road .

RE: RE: A Trip Down Cargo Fleet

I lived in Cargo Fleet from 1938 to 1958. I lived at 2 Bristol Street. To that person called Keith Barron, I would like to say that I believe the person who pulled his brother out of the Tarry Beck was my brother Allen, who died last year in Perth, West Autralia, aged 72. Actually Cargo Fleet was in two parts, 1st Fleet and 2nd Fleet. I lived in 1st Fleet which consisted of Bedford Street, Bristol Street, Chester Street, Dover Street and Cargo Fleet Lane. I would very much like to hear from anybody who lived in the Fleet during this period.

RE: RE: A Trip Down Cargo Fleet

Actually, the full first fleet consisted of Cambridge Road, Bedford Street, Chester Street, Dover Street, Cargo Fleet Lane, South View, Customs Row and Prospect Place. I was born in Chester Street in 1962 and lived there until 1970. Most of my mam's family either lived in the same street or close by (Wilsons). I live in NSW Australia but really miss Cargo Fleet.

RE: RE: A Trip Down Cargo Fleet

I remember Cargo Fleet, I used to live at number 28, I lived there till I was about 9 or 10. The Owens used to own the corner shop I think. I went to Lawson infants and just as I left there they closed Lawson juniors so I had to go to North Ormsby junior school. I remember the football field and playing out, I had a lot of friends there but their names escape me now. One house had a really bright painted front with flowers and everything on it. Good memories :))
